(G)I-DLE member Jeon Soyeon recently showcased her twist on a classic Korean dish, creating a version of kimchi fried rice that lacks its key ingredient: kimchi.
The episode titled “I cooked and ate a giant tomahawk bigger than my face on a lid!” was uploaded on the 12th to the YouTube channel Pixid, featuring Jeon Soyeon’s cooking venture on their segment “Rural Cooking Adventure”.
While Jeon Soyeon is recognized for not being a fan of vegetables, with kimchi being no exception, her version of kimchi fried rice still came to life without the actual vegetables. She omitted the kimchi itself, despite setting out to make the dish after preparing some succulent pork belly.

Her method began with cutting green onions into hefty chunks, frying them to infuse the oil, which she then disposed of. She flavored the rice using only the juice from kimchi and shared that her mother purposely prepares an ample amount of kimchi juice for her.
Jeon Soyeon recounted a memory from kindergarten where her distaste for vegetables led her to hide her uneaten veggies in her bag, as her teacher pressured her to eat them—this highlighted the roots of her dietary preferences.
To finalize her unique kimchi-fried-rice-without-kimchi, she mixed in gochujang (Korean red chili paste), the rest of the pork belly, sesame oil, oyster sauce, sugar, and topped it all off with an egg. Despite the completing the dish, there was a playful comment from the director that it resembled more of an egg fried rice rather than kimchi fried rice.
