New Delhi:
The transition from music to movies is a common trope for artists, and the illustrious Guru Randhawa is embracing this new challenge with a foray into the film industry with the rom-com drama Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.
Guru’s musical endeavors began in December 2012 with the track Same Girl, featuring Arjun, and since then he’s been on an upward trajectory. Making an impactful entry into Bollywood with ‘Tenu Suit Suit Karda’ in the film ‘Hindi Medium’ starring Irrfan Khan in 2017, he turned heads in the industry.
In a dialogue with ANI, Guru Randhawa spoke candidly about his passage from the music scene to the big screen.
He remarked, “It’s been an incredible journey. When you dedicate yourself to creative pursuits and practice them repeatedly, you master your craft. I relish new challenges and I’m passionate about cinema; it’s transformative to my life. Watching films always sparked the thought that I’d venture into cinema myself.”
Randhawa then discussed the period when he started receiving propositions to act, “Post 2015-16, I was approached with numerous acting offers. Given my appearance, many queried why I hadn’t tried acting. Initially, I was camera shy as my experience was limited to music videos, which didn’t involve rigorous acting – maybe just a handshake and a smile to the camera.”
Revealing his decision to finally embrace acting, the Patola singer stated, “Having seen countless films, I believed I was ready to take on the responsibility to deliver something promising and full of hard work and effort, along with a strong script. I underwent workshops to hone my acting skills, similar to how I approached singing and dancing, focusing on ‘Sur’ or the musical note. The role in Kuch Khatta Ho Jaay feels tailor-made for me, and I’m confident in my delivery.”
With a show of appreciation for his supporters, Guru conveyed his hopes that his film debut would receive the same level of adoration as his music, saying, “I’ve been blessed with love from the very start, and I hope my film will be met with the same warmth and support.”
Detailing Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay, the film is a tale centered around two couples and their quirky relatives.
The recently released trailer offers a sneak peek of the ensuing chaos after two young lovers tie the knot, a comedy of errors sparked by a falsely reported pregnancy, spiraling into a heartfelt musical uproar as the story of the Chawlas unfolds.
Starring alongside Guru are celebrated actors Saiee M Manjrekar, Anupam Kher, and Ila Arun. The movie is a production by Mach Films, courtesy of producers Amit Bhatia, and Laveena Bhatia.
Filmmaker G Ashok directs this much-anticipated film, scheduled for release on February 16.
