In a recent announcement on the morning of June 11th, INB100 clarified the situation surrounding a contentious press conference held on June 10th. The conference was originally called to discuss SM’s violation of contractual dealings regarding the payment of 10% from individual artist earnings, diverging from the prior oral agreement of a 5.5% distribution for digital sales revenue.
The statement from INB100 highlighted, “The press conference addressed the unfair requisitioning by SM of 10% from CBX’s solo earnings and the link this issue has to the verbal accord on a 5.5% digital sales distribution fee. It is not indicative of any halt in EXO’s group-wide undertakings. We stand by our commitment that CBX will persist in their active participation in EXO’s endeavors with SM.”
Previously, INB100 had raised the issue that SM did not honor their verbal agreement about the distribution fees yet demanded a higher percentage from CBX’s solo engagements.
Nevertheless, SM has reported, “The crux of the controversy is the illicit luring (tampering) of our contract artists by figures such as MC Mong and Cha Ga-won.”
In the wake of this dispute, there were speculations about the possibility of EXO discontinuing their joint activities. Notably, the group has not had any collaborative projects since their 7th studio album “EXIST,” unveiled in July the previous year.
