According to a recently released study, Berlin boasts the highest quality 5G network performance among Europe’s capitals.
In a benchmark study performed by MedUX, the network testing company evaluated the 5G services’ quality and speed in several leading European cities.
The assessment involved more than 4,000 kilometers of driving across 10 European countries in 2023. The researchers measured network performance to rate the “Quality of Experience” for the average user.
Outperforming Milan, which took second place, Berlin achieved a score of 4.69 out of 5, setting the standard with exceptional 5G speeds; web pages loaded in less than 1,550 milliseconds, up to 25 percent faster than its peers. Berlin also earned high scores in streaming reliability and initial playback time.

In the realm of network consistency, Milan was first with an impressive 99.91 percent success rate for data sessions. Barcelona, trailing close behind with 99.82 percent, compared to Berlin, which was at 99.56 percent, marked a slight but not substantial gap.
Porto, Portugal was recognized for the most extensive 5G coverage, exceeding 90 percent, and Lisbon led in terms of download speeds, reaching over 537 Mbps.
This report indicates that various European capitals now exceed London, which came in 10th, in terms of 5G infrastructure.
“Speed isn’t everything, and the telecom industry must evolve to cater to the genuine needs of users,” said MedUX CMO Rafael González. “We hope our insights will guide operators as they plan, deploy, manage, and refine 5G networks.”
As 5G SA (Standalone) deployments are beginning to roll out across Europe, MedUX anticipates that network quality will keep advancing in the upcoming months.
