The fate of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza remains a mystery, with a prominent Hamas official stating on Thursday that “no one has any idea” regarding the number of hostages still alive.

Addressing the October sneak assault by Hamas on Israeli soil, Hamdan displayed no remorse, instead portraying it as a defensive move against “the occupation,” which in turn provoked an Israeli military offensive that led to heavy Palestinian casualties and extensive destruction in Gaza.
Refuting a Wall Street Journal article wherein Hamas’ leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, purportedly described Palestinian deaths as “necessary sacrifices,” Hamdan labeled these as fabricated, designed to undermine Hamas and instigate public discord, though no evidence was provided.
“No one can accept the killing of the Palestinians, of his own people.” he defended.
Amid these tensions, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has cited Hamas’ rejection of a near-identical UN-proposed cease-fire that mirrored Hamas’ own previous requests.
Hamdan underscored Hamas’ preconditions for peace which included an unequivocal Israeli ceasefire, a complete military withdrawal from Gaza, and allowing Palestinian self-determination, coupled with rebuilding efforts, lifting the siege, and a just prisoner exchange agreement.
