The Russian automotive publication Kolesa released what might be the rendering of the new Lexus ES on May 24, created with the 2021 Lexus electric vehicle lineup teaser as a blueprint. While not confirmed by Lexus at the teaser’s release, the silhouette has led industry experts to project the new model as the upcoming ES succeeding the present one.

There are predictions that Lexus might introduce a second facelift for the ES, potentially incorporating an electric version rather than a complete redesign. Based on a May 8 report from Carscoops, Lexus has filed new trademarks such as ES350e and ES500e, following the ES350h. Lexus commonly designates ‘h’ for hybrids and ‘e’ for electric vehicles, suggesting the eventual launch of an ES electric model seems logical.

The impending ES model, if based on the recent renders, may present a more subdued facade than that of its predecessor, which is known for the distinct, chrome-accented spindle grille. While the front design rotation towards a more typical electric vehicle aesthetic may disappoint some, it’s important to recognize that these are speculative renderings based on an anticipated future lineup. It’s entirely possible that the hybrid variants of the ES may boast unique elements setting them apart from electric models, as seen in previously launched models like the RX and RZ.

At the rear, the design shift to horizontal tail lamps and substituting the Lexus emblem with spelled-out lettering infuses a contemporary flair.

The speculation regarding the new ES’s powertrain leans towards a hybrid, akin to the RX350h, with a combined output of 250 horsepower from a 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. Predictions within the industry suggest that the reveal of the newest Lexus ES could occur within 2020.
