In a harrowing incident caught on video, a driver narrowly escapes moments before a train crashes into his semi-truck that had become stranded on the railway tracks.
Zackary Hatcher captured the nerve-wracking event on camera this past Tuesday when the driver made a last-second dash from his vehicle before it was hit by a train in Cartersville, Georgia, scattering wreckage all around.
In the breathtaking footage, Hatcher exclaims, “The f–king train just hit this truck!” as he checks on the driver, “You alright, man?”
Hatcher explains that he approached the truck driver to alert him of the oncoming train before the crossing gates lowered.
“He eventually realized what was about to happen, so at that point I put my truck into reverse and started recording,” he told Storyful.
“It felt like slow motion as my truck was pelted with debris. And yet everything also happened in the blink of an eye.
“It was frightening, but I’m grateful that everyone made it out safe,” he added.
The City of Emerson Police Department, through Capt. Lisa Fuller, informed ABC News that the train’s crew members, the engineer and conductor, spotted the obstructing truck but were unable to avoid the collision.
“They initiated braking as soon as they perceived the hazard, but there wasn’t time to stop,” Fuller conveyed.
The wreckage of the truck’s cargo was strewn all over the crash site while the train remained halted on the tracks afterward. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
Fuller pointed out that there have been prior incidents where not all drivers have been lucky enough to evacuate their vehicles in time.
The crossing on Old Allatoona Road near Interstate 75 exit 283 in Bartow County, just outside Atlanta, has a history of such incidents involving trains colliding with trucks, presumably due to the road and track layout as reported by Fox News.
