Apple has remained relatively silent about generative artificial intelligence (AI) since the debut of ChatGPT in 2022.
However, that changed on Monday when the CEO of Apple unveiled a suite of AI-driven products, featuring a collaboration with the company behind ChatGPT, as well as introducing its proprietary AI service, dubbed “Apple Intelligence“.
The “Apple Intelligence” set consists of various tools, including capabilities for creating text and images, coupled with enhancements to Siri, the digital voice assistant. This enhancement builds on the integration of the famous ChatGPT into Apple’s smartphone lineup.
Despite the excitement, there has been some skepticism concerning the privacy concerns of enabling Siri the access to a user’s various apps for information retrieval.

Thomas Husson, a VP principal analyst at Forrester, commented that “it is the beginning stages for generative AI and thus far no brand targeting consumers has truly excelled in this area. Apple is no different, and despite high expectations for a landmark generative AI emergence, what Apple has actually done is standard for them during their worldwide developer conference: release tools for developers to craft refined experiences on Apple devices for consumers.”
Further, he remarked that Apple “avoided the excessive hype surrounding the generative AI term while emphasizing their long-term investments in a variety of AI technologies, such as machine learning” during the conference.
